The first breed of this dog arrived in America 12000 years ago. American Kennel Club recognized this breed in 1935, this dog has strong muscles and wide chest that is specially meant for pulling. The Malamute has been identified as the basal breed that in turn aids in the emergence of the modern breeds in the 19th century.
Giant Alaskan malamute is similar to the breeds like Greenland dog, Canadian Eskimo dog, and Siberian husky.
As the Giant malamute was born in cold climates they have a course overcoat of fur with a downy undercoat beneath for extra protection from the harsh weather conditions. The coat of Alaskan malamute is a double coat. The undercoat has an oily and wooly texture and can be as two inches.
This dog is mostly black, grey and brown and has clear white markings on the crown of their head, snout, or on the overall face like a mask. Ears are small and firmly erect. Malamute is a heavy dog as compared to Siberian husky which is bred for speed. Malamute is the breed for strength and endurance. Their eyes are not blue and rather rich amber brown in color.

As your small kids may crawl to the dog place during feeding time of the dog and an accident may happen. If you have other small pets like the cat in your house malamutes may chase and attack them as they are genetically disposed to hunt small animals in the wild.
